I offer research at an hourly rate of $50 plus expenses with a 20 hour minimum. I need an authorization and contract before I begin the research. A retainer of 50% of the quoted fee is required before I begin the research process. The client will be invoiced for the balance before the report is delivered.
All genealogical projects must have a research plan. The first 3-5 hours will be spent reviewing information that the client has already obtained. I will analyze the problem, evaluate the evidence, and prepare a research plan. The remainder of the contracted hours will be devoted to research, analyzing the results, and composition of the research report. For every hour of research, there is approximately 2 hours devoted to the report.
Additional research may be purchased in 5-10 hour blocks of time.
I am available for researching on location in Ohio as well as other states and major research repositories (Family History Library, Allen County Public Library, Library of Congress, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Library, New England Historic Genealogical Society Research Library, etc.) at an hourly rate of $50 plus expenses with a 20 hour minimum. I do require my travel fees (transportation to location, rental car, and lodging) to be paid upfront as well as a retainer (50% of quoted fee).
I am able to assist you with entering the information you have obtained into a genealogy software program at an hourly rate of $50. I personally use RootsMagic, but I do have experience with Family Tree Maker and Legacy.
Please remember that genealogical research done correctly does take time and often involves collecting data from external sources (probate courts, NARA, health departments, etc.) and results may not be available immediately.
I cannot guarantee I will be able to solve your genealogical problem(s) since the availability of information varies from county to county as well as from individual to individual.
The fees I charge are for my time spent researching and not for the information itself.
